Dr. Shanta Barton

 Dr. Shanta’ is recognized as a household name in her community where she is celebrated and honored for her surreal contributions towards helping others accomplish their goal in life and also reach their full potential.

At the age of 21, young Shanta took it upon herself to establish a refuge for youths who are vulnerable to risk in the Paramore Community of Orlando, FL. She channeled her youthfulness and energy into founding the New Image Youth Center (NIYC) also known as the Good in the Hood. Sixteen years later, NIYC has catered to at least 100 children annually and has also offered mentorship to high school graduates and young businessmen and women.

Dr. Shanta' has been recognized as one of the 2018 Women of the year by Orlando Magazine, and according to Orlando Sentinels Scott Maxwell she is one of the 10 people who make Orlando A better place to live. Most recently, Shanta was named one of the 2021 Women who mean business award winners by the Orlando Business Journal.

 She has kept the community strong and alive through her numerous interventions and outreach programs. Dr. Shanta’ is a licensed mental health therapist with a specialty in play therapy for children and adults. She also provides services to client with NeuMind Wellness Group. In the Orlando area – she has been an advocate for community building, empowerment, mental health, education, domestic violence and children’s education and other causes.

As a seasoned author, she has written books that dazzle the mind and sets the heart on a new perspective Her books include There’s Good in my Hood, Yes , God, I’m listening! It is good in my NeighborHood coloring book and journalAnd 2 anthologies Not Just AnotHER story which was recognized as Amazon’s # 1 best seller and most recently complied a book of 12 youth authors all under the age of 21, Dear Adults, We have issues too!
